Rebbloging it again
Argo (Ben Affleck, 2012) by Jonathan Burton
Are the rumors true that Ben Affleck is going to be the next Batman? What do you think of that choice if it's true? I saw him years ago in that movie Daredevil, which I thought was Ok, but I don't know if he was the best part of the film even being the lead. I think Jennifer Garner was. Her character was so dynamic and badass!! :)
They are officially true, and Affleck is definitely going to play the caped crusader in the upcoming Superman vs Batman movie. I think the choice is fine. He’s certainly capable and I’m sure he will do a fine job. The guy at least deserves the benefit of the doubt. As far as all the hoopla surrounding the casting choice goes, I’m not sure what people were expecting. You don’t need Daniel Day-Lewis to play Batman. I don’t even think Christian Bale brought a whole lot to the role that makes his performance the standard by which all future Bruce Waynes should be modeled after. Personally Michael Keaton is still my favorite Batman.
As for Daredevil, I’ve honestly blocked that movie out of my mind. It was terrible, but the failure of that film doesn’t just rest on Affleck. Everything in that movie was a hot mess, from the shitty script to Colin Farrell’s overly exaggerated Bullseye to the cheesy romance between Daredevil and Garner’s Elektra. That said, it’s still not the worst movie in the history of all comic book movies.
The premature nervous breakdowns that people are having over Affleck being cast as Batman are getting pretty ridiculous. When Heath Ledger was cast as one of the most iconic Batman villains, The Joker, people threw a fit about that, too. At the time Ledger had done a bunch of rom-coms and a few indies. I remember the abhorrent and accusatory “But he was in that gay cowboy movie! How could he play The Joker?”
Fast forward years later and people still think his stint as The Joker was the best thing since sliced bread.
TGIF, pals! Here’s a look at next week’s guests to start your weekend off right.
